Photographing African empowerment while throttling stereotypes.
Meet Photographer Grace Olanma Etigwe-Uwa
Bold colors and bold faces are the hallmarks of Grace Olanma Etigwe-Uwa’s surprising and refreshing work. Currently a student at the MetFilm School in England, her goal is to retell the story of Africa, reimagine it, and destroy stereotypes.
How did you get interested in photography?
I got interested in photography because I found myself in a dark place and I needed a way to express myself, but before then, I was taking photos with my phone. I was in a dark place, and I was battling depression, so basically, I needed to explore new things.
What is some advice you have for other photographers?
Be patient because patience is a virtue. Good things will come to those who wait.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I love to photograph a lot of things, from nature to fashion photography to food photography, street, and weddings, and finally, events. I mostly photograph models.
